What is a Balayage?
Balayage is a hair colouring technique, and unlike an all over colour the goal is to create natural looking highlights with softer and more blended tones between the colours.
The word is actually French for painting, or sweeping, which describes exactly what this service is.
How does it work?
The first step is sectioning, I will divide the hair into sections, and strategically selects pieces of hair to colour.
The second step is the actual application, which is done using a brush or hands, and applying the colour to the hair in a sweeping motion, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends. This is done in a way that naturally lightens the hair.
Next it’s blending, as the colour is applied, I may use various techniques to blend the colour seamlessly into the hair, creating a soft gradient effect. This helps to avoid harsh lines or demarcations between the coloured and natural hair.
It’s the processing step now, once the colour is applied, the hair is allowed to process, meaning the colour is left on the hair for a specific amount of time to achieve the desired level of lightness. Processing times can vary depending on factors such as the starting hair colour and the desired end result.
Finally, rinsing and styling, the hair is rinsed thoroughly to remove the excess colour, and a conditioning treatment may be applied to nourish the hair. The hair can then be styled as desired.
